Teacher Education, Performance and Professional Development Specialist

JOB SUMMARY: –

The incumbent will be required to assist in the development of strategies and programmes and assist with the formulation of policies to continuously improve Teaching and Teacher Development in a specialist area viz, Primary, Secondary or ECCE. Work is performed with initiative and independent judgement within a framework of established policies and procedures and is reviewed for conformity with policy and the achievement of objectives through analysis of reports and discussions.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to the Manager, Teacher Education, Performance and Professional Development Training & Development.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors and provides leadership in the coordination and development of teachers and administrators
  • Assists in the development and implementation of teacher-related initiatives of the Ministry of Education.
  • Provides guidance and support to Curriculum Officers, Schools Supervisors, Principals and Teachers.
  • Assists in ensuring that records and statistical data relative to Teaching and Teacher Development are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Assists in the monitoring and evaluation of initiatives of the Ministry of Education relating to teachers.
  • Plans training programmes for Principals, Teachers and other educators.
  • Assists in the assessment of Education Systems for schools in Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Provides orientation training for new and incoming teachers.
  • Assists in developing catalogues, brochures, bulletins, memos, etc, as needed to inform personnel of staff development requirements, programmes and opportunities.
  • Assists in identifying staff development components for professional development
  • Develops and conducts Training programmes for Curriculum Officers, Schools Supervisors, Teacher Trainers, and Teachers.
  • Develops training material that can be used for the training of Curriculum Officers, Schools Supervisors, and Teacher Trainers.
  • Completes monthly and annual reports on approved Education delivery and implementation support programmes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and required to perform the above services.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Sound knowledge of latest development and policies, as well as programming in teacher development and management.
  • Knowledge of education technologies and their applications, including internet navigation
  • Proven ability to conceptualize, develop, plan and manage programmes, as well as to impart knowledge and teach skills.
  • Sound analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to advise teachers on quality assurance measures relating to teaching skills, methods and techniques
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to meet short deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and manage diversity in a team environment.
  • Ability in organizing resources and establishing priorities in order to meet targets.
  • Proficient in managing online training programmes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education and Training in the field of Education at the post graduate level, preferably in teacher education or curriculum development
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in the field of Teacher Education.
  • Working experience at the administrative level in the education system.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
