JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Social Worker is responsible for administering and directing all activities related to the provision of school social work services in schools. The incumbent will be required to provide direct and on-going leadership to School Social Workers within the assigned district.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Articulates the philosophy and goals of the SSSD in accordance with Government’s policy.
- Assists in planning and organising the professional and supporting services of the SSSD.
- Coordinates the delivery and implementation of social work services in various schools in conjunction with the Social Work Specialist.
- Supervises the work of the School Social Workers at the various schools.
- Monitors the implementation of specialized intervention programmes.
- Liaises with other institutions performing similar services for students with such needs.
- Collates and analyses the School Social Worker’s reports for submission to the Social Work Specialist.
- Participates in on-going professional development activities.
- Consults with Principals and other school administrators on matters concerning Social Work.
- Participate in the activities of the Multi-disciplinary Team in the District.
- Plans and conducts parent education seminars, workshops and lectures.
- Coordinates and network with other social agencies and non-governmental organizations.
- Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Science in Social Work or its equivalent from an accredited University.
- Five (5) to Eight (8) years’ experience in the field of Social Work
- At least four (4) years’ experience in a teaching or counselling position in the education system.
- Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the education system in Trinidad and Tobago
- Experience in dealing with students with behavioural problems.
- Experience in teaching will be an asset.
