JOB SUMMARY:
The School Social Worker is responsible for assisting suspended students and students with behavioural difficulties and their parents/guardians in overcoming social, emotional and financial obstacles.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interviews students and members of their families in the diagnosis and evaluation of their difficulties.
- Interprets to teaching staff and Guidance Officers those social, economic, environmental and personal factors affecting students’ behaviour.
- Prepares case histories, written reports and confers with Guidance Officers on case reports.
- Assesses students’ needs by home visits and personal interviews and arranges for assistance, social, financial or otherwise as required.
- Creates linkages and sources community, governmental and non-governmental resources to assist clients with special needs
- Participates in the delivery of parent/guardian education sessions on a variety of psycho-social needs
- Participates in in-service training conducted by the Ministry of Education
- Participates in case conferences re: intervention strategies for students with behaviour difficulties
- Engages in the follow-up of student
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work or its equivalent from an accredited University.
- Three (3) years’ experience in the field of Social Work
- At least one (1) year internship in the school/education system.
