Instructional Designer

JOB SUMMARY: –

 The Instructional Designer will be directly responsible for the decisions surrounding the appearance, functioning, and capabilities of the Learning Management System (LMS) of the Ministry of Education and contributes to the successful deployment of instructional design support to the various stakeholders of the Educational Technology Unit.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:-

  • Designs and develops training resources that empower the relevant stakeholders of ETU in the context of instructional design.
  • Conducts and/or contributes to the delivery of synchronous training, whether face-to-face or online, to support teachers (and other relevant stakeholders) in the various aspects of the instructional design process, for instruction occurring across all delivery modes (face-to-face, blended and/or online)
  • Develops asynchronous resources in various formats (written, audio or video) to support teachers (and other relevant stakeholders) who need assistance in the various aspects of the instructional design process, for instruction occurring across all delivery modes (face-to-face, blended and/or online)
  • Collaborates with educational technologists and other members of the ETU to work on various projects.
  • Under the guidance and instruction of the Director of ETU, collaborate with other personnel from the various divisions and units of the Ministry of Education, on projects that require instructional design support and expertise.
  • Keeps abreast of contemporary trends and developments in the area of instructional design within all levels of the education system.
  • Provides guidance and insight into the visual design, layout and structure of course shells (for each educational level) upon the Ministry of Education’s Learning Management System (i.e., Moodle).
  • Other relevantly assigned duties within the areas of instructional design.

 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:-

  • Training as evidenced by the possession of a recognized Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Learning Technologies, Distance Education or any related field.
  • Two (2) years’ work experience at a technical level in a related field.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:-

  • Demonstrated theoretical knowledge of Learning Theories, Instructional Theories and Instructional Design Theories.
  • Knowledgeable on issues of accessibility and universal design for learning
  • An understanding of Pedagogical and Andragogic Strategies

REQUIRED SKILLS:-

  • Competent in a variety of digital technologies:
    • Digital Content Authoring Tools e.g. SCORM Creation software, Screen casting production and editing software.
    • Productivity tools e.g. Microsoft 365 suite of tools
    • Video Conferencing Technologies
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems, preferably Moodle.
  • Collaborative and works well in a team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication as well as effective presentation skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving.
