Coordinator, Education Diagnostic Prescriptive Services

JOB SUMMARY

The Coordinator, Education Diagnostic Prescriptive Services is responsible for administering and coordinating both the professional and administrative functions of these services.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Articulates the vision and mission of the service in accordance with Government’s policy
  • Develops, critically analyses and informs policies and practices within, and related to, the school system
  • Assesses and oversees teacher education programmes that are designed to make teachers more competent to deal with the students’ special needs
  • Co-ordinates public education programmes
  • Prepares and amends confidential reports
  • Provides a referral service
  • Establishes and maintains an appropriate data base and management system
  • Co-ordinates appropriate placement for student Individualised Education Programmes (IPE), placement at primary and secondary levels.
  • Critically analyses reports from subordinate officers

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Sound leadership skills.
  • Effective communication, presentation and coordinating skills.
  • Have a sound grounding in the principles and practices of education.
  • Have a thorough comprehension of the learning process, including the assimilation, storage, retrieval and application of information.
  •  Have knowledge of formal and informal assessment and observational procedures and ability to relate these to the special learning strategies of individuals with various types of special needs.
  • Skills to manage and coordinate in a decentralized environment.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in special education.
  • At least six (6) years in a Senior Administrative position in the education system in the area of Special Education.
  • Some experience in Management would be asset.

  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
